Biofeedback as a Treatment for Depression

Researches have found that disturbed breathing can be a cause for depression. When there is a severe mood change, the breathing pattern undergoes rapid changes.
Sometimes the breathing will be very poor and will give rise to suffocation. The poor breathing will trigger emotional imbalance. Poor breathing also leads to inadequate supply of oxygen to the blood.
Learning about your breathing pattern and able to detect changes in it can be very helpful in avoiding normal tensions to build up as depression. Deep breathing gives a person the much needed time to think about the negative actions and the ways to rectify it. It also helps in avoiding hasty actions which will be regretted later and can be a cause for depression. Numerous books are available on breathing exercises. There are also breathing exercise courses in yoga.
