Ayurvedic Treatments for Depression

The school of psychiatry was much developed in the east even before the birth of western psychiatry. Some of the chronic forms of depression that have no cure in western medicine have been successfully treated by Ayurveda.

The greatest advantage of Ayurveda is that it prevents the recurrence of depression and does not have any side effects. Patience and belief in the system is a must for the effective treatment of depression in Ayurveda.

Ayurveda believes that the cause of depression is the imbalance in Vata, Pitta, and Kapha and the lack of awareness of inner self. The method of treatment varies with the cause of depression. The treatment involves the use of various types of natural medicines. The period of the treatment also varies from patient to patient. When under Ayurvedic treatment, the patient has to follow certain dietary patterns. Daily routines have to be strictly adhered for effective and early cure. Patients who are used to allopathic medicines might find some of the routine and exercises really tough.

The effect of Ayurveda is slowly being felt in the West. Numerous Ayurvedic products are available for the treatment of depression. It is better to use Ayurvedic products after consulting an Ayurvedic doctor or a therapist. Most of the treatments in Ayurveda can only be done by professional Ayurvedic practitioner.
