The period of the intake of antidepressant medication depends on the severity of the illness. Most patients will show remarkable improvement in the first few weeks itself. But a therapist will advise to continue the medication for three to four weeks. If the severity of the illness is very high, the patient will have to take antidepressant medication for more than seven weeks.
