Anxiety Symptoms

Anxiety disorders come in various sub-categories. Some of the more widely cited anxiety disorders include generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, social anxiety disorder, and phobias. Various symptoms for each type of anxiety disorder will be briefly highlighted in the paragraphs below to provide insight into what individuals with these types of disorders may experience on a daily basis.

Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
Those individuals who are diagnosed with a generalized anxiety disorder, or GAD, may experience a wide array of symptoms. Certain symptoms may include unrealistic worries, aches, pains, nausea, and dizziness. These symptoms vary in severity and type from individual to individual.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
If one is plagued with OCD, they will experience obsessive thoughts which cannot be contained until they perform certain compulsive types of behavior. Specific symptoms will vary amongst individuals with this disorder however they will all have constant plaguing thoughts and the need to perform certain behaviors.

Panic Disorder
Individuals who have a panic disorder will feel extreme fear or panic for no reason at all. Along with this irrational fear will be possible sweating, trembling, dizziness, shortness of breath and heart palpitations.

Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
If one suffers from posttraumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, they will have recurring nightmares and/or flashbacks from a painful and serious incident which occurred in their past. Along with the nightmares and flashbacks, the individual may also experience avoidance and detachment from other individuals, both familiar and unfamiliar.

Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD)
There are quite a few anxiety symptoms which go along with social anxiety disorder, or SAD. Some often cited symptoms of a medical condition of this type include irrational blushing, fainting, dizziness and a propensity to pull away from social interaction. The severity of this type of anxiety disorder and accompanying symptoms depends on the specific individual.

Specific Phobias
Lastly, the anxiety symptoms individuals with specific phobias suffer are quite wide and varied. The types of symptoms one experiences will depend greatly upon their individual phobia. Certain things such as extreme fright, dizziness, heart palpitations, nausea and fainting may all be symptoms associated with a specific phobia.
